So many of us struggle with acne, including me! I didn't get rid of my acne until I became an esthetician. I decided to make this blog to introduce everything you need to know about acne on your journey to better skin.
Acne can be caused by many things including:
- Poor cell turnover (cell regeneration)
- Excess oil production due to the oil gland not draining properly
- Immaturity of oil gland
- Hormonal & Dietary
When a pore is compromised by any of the above, a proliferation of acne causing bacteria (P. acnes) occurs, infecting the pore and producing puss and inflammation. To get rid of acne, you will need to restore the barrier function of the skin.
Everyone's acne is different and will require unique regimens. Follow my acne instructions to the T to see the best results!
This can be anywhere from a 3-6 month process.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Month 1- Purging - the 'worse before it gets better' phase
Month 2 - Slight or Great Improvements
Month 3-4 - Dramatic Improvement
Month 5-6 - Maintenance
DO'S & DONT'S
DO:
- Use Medical Grade Skincare (Like PCA!)
-Use an exfoliating face wash containing BPO, Salicylic Acid or Glycolic Acid- the type of acne you have will determine which one I suggest
- Use a Retin A product which will improve the ability of oil glands to mature, improve acne scarring, and smooth fine lines
- Learn what foods your body is sensitive to. Look into a low carb low sugar diet. Nuts, milk and gluten can be sensitive for some. High Glycemic Index products and highly androgenic foods are also items to consider eliminating.
- Ice breakouts to bring down inflammation
- Expect to receive treatments (Facials & Peels) 1-2 times monthly for the first three months
DON'T
- Pick at your acne, leave them to me!
- Let your acne sit for too long. This can cause pitted scarring, extractions are extremely important because of this.
- Use coconut oil, or any body butters on the face. Basically don't use anything unless otherwise instructed!
- Skip the moisturizer. Super important to keep the skin moisturized! When the skin is not moisturized, it boosts oil production to make up for it which causes acne.
